Fine Art Nude (Light passing through a woman's breast)

Photograph, 2015

The vast majority of our visual reality is based on our perception of light reflecting off the surfaces of the world around us. The recording of these reflections is the basis of traditional photography. This series of images stemmed from my interest in finding an alternative means of photographic representation, one with a more direct emphasis on the path light takes from its source to the camera sensor. I ended up removing the lens of my camera and then pressing the camera up against various body parts, taking care not to allow any light to leak directly into the camera body. The result is a series of abstract photographs, where every photon of light that the camera sensor recorded had passed through the flesh of the body part the camera was placed against.
